SUGAR QUEEN
Many people who are qualified to say tell us that this plant, in their opinion, ranks with the Streamliner in hardiness, health, and_ profits. This everbearing variety is our own special offer- ing. We have shipped thousands of crates of top price berries from our own farm, and we have never seen a berry that looks better, tastes bet- ter, or sells better. These plants are as thrifty as any we have ever seen. They grow rapidly, withstand all kinds of weather, produce early, and for two seasons. The foliage is rather leathery and very healthy. Free of disease. A fine-flowering variety. Makes a lot of plants and produces heavily. If you are a commercial grower, we'll recommend these heartily and back them up 100%.

Pears will grow on almost any soil but will do best on a
D EA RS high elevation, provided sub-soil is not too wet. Wherever
this is the case the ground should be thoroughly under-
drained. In very poor soil a heavy top dressing of manure
in the fall will be of advantage. Standard pear trees should be
planted twenty feet apart each way. Pears are subject to fire
blight, a disease controlled only by cutting back the branches
beyond the point of injury. Do not allow pears to ripen on the trees:
The highest quality results from gathering fruit ten days before it is ripe. Winter pears are best stored before the heavy frost.
