Introductory

The present volume constitutes the 1936 edition of Henderson’s Directory of Regina. The work embodies a complete epitome of the civic, commercial, social and industrial interests and activities of the municipality. It is a modern Directory in all its parts and includes all the essential features which have been proven so satisfactory to our patrons in previous issues; these have been retained and amplified, and improvements have been added as suggested by experience in order to add to the value and usefulness of the Directory, thus fully meeting the requirements of patrons; the approbation and continued patronage accorded the work are constant incentives to better service.

The publication has had the benefit and advantage of the complete organiza¬ tion and resources of the publishers, and of the skill and experience of their corps of enumerators and compilers added to the courteous co-operation of citizens, in the production of the volume.

THE ALPHABETICAL DIRECTORY

THE CLASSIFIED BUSINESS DIRECTORY

THE CLASSIFIED BUSINESS DIRECTORY occupies pages 573 to 660, and exhibits the various manufacturing, mercantile and professional names, compiled under headings appropriate to the class of industry or profession followed.

ADVERTISING REGINA

An important function of the Directory is to set forth the characteristics and advantages of the city as a place of residence, as a business location, as an indus¬ trial site, and as an educational centre. The Directory acts as a mirror, reflecting all that is noteworthy in the city in the above respects. In order to spread this information regarding the city broadcast over the country, the publishers have placed copies of this issue of the Directory in the directory libraries, where they are readily available for reference use by the public. There they serve as per¬ petual advertisements of Regina, for business men the country over realize that the City Directory represents the community as it really is.

The publishers take this opportunity of thanking the citizens for valuable assistance rendered in the way of furnishing information concerning themselves, their friends and their business interests for this Directory, and also the public- spirited and progressive business and professional men for support given in the way of patronage.

Respectfully, The Publishers

City of Regina

Regina, Capital of the Province of Saskatchewan, is situated 357 miles west of Winnipeg on the Canadian Pacific Railway .main transcontinental line and in the exact centre of population for Western Canada. Incorporated as a city in A'90'3, with a population of /3,000, Regina has grown solidly and steadily until recognized today as the fourteenth city in size in .the Dominion of Canada.

The City was named as the first train arrived at '9 -o’clock, August .213, 1-8(82, "by Princess 'Louise, -Duchess of Argyle, wife of the then Governor General of Canada, in honor of Queen Victoria.

The first settlers of the district arrived in May, 1882, and subsequently a canvas town sprang up where the trestle bridge carries the main track of the C.P.R. across Wascana Creek, about a mile west of the centre of the City.

The selection of the townsite of Regina was arranged jointly by the Government and the C.P.R. Company. Early ,in 18:8#' an officer of the North West Mounted Police was sent to select a suitable place for the headquarters of the force, which had previously been at Winnipeg. 'On his return the lands at present occupied by the barracks were selected.

At this time an agreement had been completed between the Dominion Government and the Railway Company to enter into partnership regarding certain townsites, one of which was to be the seat of Government for the North-West Territories. Acting under this agreeiment the General 'Manager of the Railway Company, then W. 'C. Van Horne, and Mr. Dewdney, the Governor of the Terri¬ tories, selected four sections, viz: 19 and 30, township 17, range 19, and 24 and i2'5, township >17, range 20, west of the second meridian, to constitute the Townsite of Regina. These selections were subsequently vested in Messrs. Osier, Scarth, Smith and Angus, trustees to administer and divide the net proceeds between the [Federal Government and the Railway Company.

The arrangement for the control of the townsite by the Townsite Trustees was terminated by Order in ’Council of 29th December, 1900, and by further Order in 'Council of 6th April, 190#, the granting to the Municipality of the lots in the Townsite which had reverted to the Crown was authorized.

Up to March 7, 1883, when the Roundhouse was burned, Regina had been a Divisional 'Point on the C. P. R., but after that date the headquarters of the Division was removed to Moose Jaw.

By Order in Council, 27th March, 1883, the Town of Regina was declared to be the seat of Government of the North-West Territories in place of Battleford.

In the Spring of 1883, the first school was opened in the town. The original Dominion Lands Office, a low frame building, was brought up on a flat car from Troy (afterwards called Qu’Appelle) and placed at the corner of Broad Street and Victoria Avenue.

A public meeting was held in April, 18'83, to discuss the matter of the site of the proposed post office, the site finally selected being on Victoria Avenue.

On May 13, l'S##, Lieutenant Governor and Mrs. Dewdney arrived to take up residence in Regina. 'They were met on arrival by a large number of citizens, and Hi.s Honour was presented with an address.

Regina was made a Money Order Point on July 1, 1883. A public meeting was held and a citizens' committee formed to carry on the business of the town. Mr. John Secord, ’Barrister, was appointed secretary, and Sub-Committees were appointed on Finance, Sanitation, Fire and Water and Miscellaneous Affairs. A committee was also appointed to draft a charter of incorporation, and the Finance Committee were instructed to collect $2,0-00 by public subscription for public works.

•Elections for the North-West Council were held in August, 18i83-. Mr. William White was selected for the Regina district. The Fifth Council of the North-West Territories was opened by Lieutenant Governor Dewdney on August '22-, 1883. A bill entitled, “An Ordinance Respecting Municipalities,’’ was introduced in the North-West Council on September 12, 1883, and a public meeting of citizens was callled to discuss the matter of incorporation.

In October, l-8'8'3, a lot on Eleventh Avenue, near Rose Street, was .sold for $27'5. lAt this time farm lands in the vicinity of the City were worth about $5 per acre.

On Monday, October 8, the Civic Council met and took final steps to comply with the 'Ordinance to provide Municipal Government. The Government Buildings, Council Chambers and Indian Office on Dewdney Avenue were completed in October. The first telephones, privately owned, were introduced into the town at this time.

Up to -December, 1883, Regina had two chartered banks, the (Bank of Montreal and the Merchants Bank. It was found, however, that there was not enough business for two banks, and the Merchants Bank was therefore withdrawn.

Nominations for the first Municipal Elections took place on January 3, 11884. Two hundred and thirteen votes were po'Jled, and the following were elected: J. W. ISimith, J. A. Kerr, J. D. jSibbald, James Hambley, Daniel Mowat, W. H. Gibbs and D. L. 'Scott, the last named, who later became Judge of the Supreme Court of Alberta, being the first mayor.

IRegina was incorporated as a City on June 1,9, 1908, under Chapter 28 of the Ordinance of the North-West Territories, 1908-4, and became the Capital and Seat of 'Government of the Province of Saskatchewan.

The Parliament Buildings, the erection of which was commenced in the fall of 1908, stands in its own grounds of about 160 acres south of Wascana Uake and within the City 'Limits. It has been .said that there are no 'Parliament Build¬ ings more dignified or better adapted to the needs of legislative work than those of the Saskatchewan Capital.

CITY GOVERNMENT

The Government of the City is vested in a Council. It is what is regarded as a modified form of Commission Government with the Council as the Legislative body, and the City Commissioners as the Executive. The powers of both are com¬ bined in “The City Act.” The Council consists of the Mayor and ten Aldermen. The Council is elected by wards. The mayor is elected annually, while the Aider- men hold office for two years. The mayor and the members of the Collegiate Institute, Public and (Separate School Boards are elected at the same time by a vote of the city at large.

FINANCIAL CENTRE

Regina is unquestionably the financial centre of the province and its develop¬ ment in this respect is remarkable. Seven of the leading Canadian Chartered Banks have eleven branches in the city. The Bank Clearing House Association was established and commenced business October 1, 1909. In 1938 Bank Debits were $558,047,000.

A very large volume of business is transacted in the purchase and sale of bonds and debentures of the municipalities and school districts of Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta, the City being the headquarters of Western Canada for this class of business. As an indication of this it may be said that the authorization granted by the Local Government Board for the issue of Municipal, School and Rural Telephone Debentures in Saskatchewan alone for T'93'0 amounted to $5,9T4,li9'2<.30.

RAILWAY CENTRE

Fourteen rail lines radiate in alll directions from the city, serving '640 towns and villages in the main trading- area over 4,303 miles of trackage. Freight and express shipments from the city can reach practically every point in Western Canada in twenty-four hours.

DISTRIBUTING POINT

Regina offers unrivalled facilities for the distribution of merchandise through¬ out Western Canada. The city is the largest distributing centre of farm machinery in the world, business in this line having reached $36, 000,04)0 in the year. (187 wholesale concerns are situated in the city’s industrial area.

MUNICIPALLY OWNED INDUSTRIAL SITES

Regina occupies a unique advantage for industrial development in that it owns a large portion of its original townsite, 300 acres of which have been set aside for a model industrial area. This property is only three blocks from the downtown business and financial section and is exclusively reserved for whole¬ sale and manufacturing premises. The area is paved, and the property is served

70

with spur trackage, sewer, water, power, walks and street railway. Its freight depots and unloading platforms are convenient to the entire area, while still about six miles of .spur track frontage is available. .Such control by the city prohibits speculation with industrial site property. Located in the city are 84 industries, 187 wholesale businesses and 706 principal retail and service establishments.

MUNICIPAL OWNERSHIP

The -City owns its own street railway, light and power and water systems. The number of passengers carried on the street railway during 11931 was 4.1141J29131 and earnings $ 2*4*9, 5>5 1.1*3. Earnings of the Power Plant were $.1, 76.0, 6.8*6 net and of the Waterworks for 193® $376,5-9*9.31.

Regina has an abundant supply of water for all purposes which possesses the distinctive feature of being the coldest supply at source of any on the North American Continent.

CENTRE OF GRAIN GROWING AREA

-Surrounding Regina is the finest grain growing district in the world. Sask¬ atchewan is the greatest grain growing province in the Dominion and produces annually one half of the Canadian hard wheat crop. As producer of quality hard wheat Saskatchewan leads the world, having won the world’s prize eleven times during the past sixteen years.

SASKATCHEWAN WHEAT POOL

The Saskatchewan Wheat Pool has been in existence nine years, the required sign-up of fifty per cent of the provincial wheat acreage having been secured on June 26, 1924, with 46,509 contracts. There are now in excess of 83,000 members. The head office of this farmers’ co-operative organization, the official title of which is Saskatchewan Co-operative Wheat Producers Limited, is at Regina.

During the first seven years of operations a total of over 737 million bushels of wheat was marketed directly through the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool. At the beginning of the 19'3'l-*32 crop season, however, a modification in Pool policy came into effect as approved by the elected delegates, who recognized the imperative need of growers for a maximum amount of immediate cash for their grain in view of critically low prices for all agricultural produce. By this new policy, each Pool member was given the privilege of deciding the method by which he wished his grain marketed, so that he could either deliver to a season pool for wheat as in previous years, or secure the open market price.

The agricultural crisis continuing, this policy remained in effect throughout the last 1932-33 crop year.

One of the most striking examples of co-operative principles applied to business is found in the phenomenal growth of Saskatchewan Pool Elevators Limited, a subsidiary of the Saskatchewan Wheat Poo>l. The Ccimpany was in¬ corporated in February T92|5, and in its first seven years’ operations handled, through its country elevators and over the platform to its terminals, a grand total of over 600 million bushels of all grains. It continues to be entrusted with a very substantial proportion of the grain marketed in Saskatchewan.

The number of country elevators in the Pool Elevator system has increased from 89 in its first year to 1,067 at the close of the 193'2>-33 crop season. Of these fifteen houses which had been operated under lease were purchased in Judy, so that all its elevators are now both owned and operated by the Company. In addition, the Pool organization operates six large terminals on the -Great 'Lakes, of which four are owned and two leased.

The total -capacity of all elevators in the system, country and terminal, is over 63 million bushels. It is the 'largest grain elevator syste/m in the world, being under the direct control of Saskatchewan growers.

LIVE STOCK

While Saskatchewan has always been considered the Premier Grain Growing Province in the Dominion there is abundant evidence that she will, in the not distant future, occupy an equally outstanding position in th realm of livestock.

At the Roya'l Winter Fair, Toronto, and at the International Exposition, Chicago, the high quality of our Saskatchewan livestock has been demonstrated over a long period of years.

In 1931, at the Toronto Royal, Saskatchewan livestock exhibits won thirteen Championships, ten Reserve Championships, twenty-eight first prizes and sixty-

71

three other prizes. An outstanding achievement was winning three Grand Cham- pionships in draft horses and four Reserve Grand Championships. Saskatchewan maintains, with ease, its position as the leading horse 'breeding province in the Dominion.

At the 19'31 International Dive Stock Exposition, Chicago, a Grand Champion, a Senior Champion, a Reserve Grand Champion, a Junior Champion, a Reserve Junior Champion, Six First prizes, a Second and a Third were awarded to Sask¬ atchewan Entries.

An increase is shown in the cattle population of the province, and considerable improvement is being brought about by Pure 'Bred Sire Areas and the use of better bulls.

In sheep, in swine and in poultry every effort is being made to improve the quality and encouraging results are being obtained. This is evidenced by the fact that in swine, a Saskatchewan Barrow was successful in winning the Grand Championship at “The Royall Winter Fair” in 1.9<30, the first occasion on which this coveted award has been secured by any province in Western Canada.

EDUCATIONAL CENTRE OF PROVINCE

From the educational and social points of view, the City also offers every advantage. The City has the Regina College, a branch of the University of Sask¬ atchewan, St. Chad’s (Anglican) College, Campion (Roman Catholic) College, and the 'Provincial Government Normal School, as well as a Lutheran College.

Besides this group of educational buildings there are 22 public and separate schools, 2 collegiate institutes and the Balfour Technical ’School opened in 19'30 and one of the largest buildings of its kind in Western Canada. There are 57 churches, Y. M. C. A., Y. W. C. A., 2 public hospitals and several private nursing homes, a public library with >4 branches and 6 commercial schools.

Contributed to the City by one of the earliest residents, Mr. F. N. Darke, the Darke Building for Music and Arts affords a facility for large gatherings seldom found in much larger centres.

CENTRE FOR THE TOURIST TREK

Tourists going north or south or east or west find in Regina a charm and gaiety to match the mood of holiday and to lend a pleasant interlude to any trip.

Not only does the “Queen City of the Plains” have much of interest, beauty and historical value to give the visitor, but it offers the nearest centre from which roads lead off to the wonderland of Saskatchewan, into the hills, the lakes, by tree-lined roads, into the glory of the pine-clad north.

To reach this city of the plains, and Capital of the Province, you travel through a fascinating country. A. land of thrilling spaciousness, a boundless, rolHing plain of fertile soil and far stretched fields of waving grain, the land of appealing beauty, of long days of sunshine, glorious colorful sunsets, clear air a land that holds you in its spell and calls you back when you are gone.

Visitors will find a modern, bustling centre. There are exceillent hotels, a most comfortable and chariming tourist camp, splendid theatres, modern and ex¬ tensive shopping facilities, beautiful drives, splendid golf courses, aquatic facili¬ ties, libraries and shady parks.

'On the southern shore of Lake Wascana are the magnificent grounds and buildings of the Provincial Government. Visitors are always welcome and can visit the llibrary and reading rooms during the day. A view of the city from the high dome over the Legislative Chambers is a sight amazing to those who know not of the distances of vision on the prairies. 'The gorgeous grounds invite a quiet walk amidst the cooling shade beside the lapping water of the lake.

In the library will be found many relics of great historical value, chief of which is the Confederation Table. Around this massive board sat Fathers of Confederation who brought the scattered parts of the settled East into the unity which today, as the Dominion of Canada, holds a place of high regard aimong a'll countries of the world.

One should not fail to visit the Natural History Museum in the Provincial Normal -School on the other side of the lake. Here, in lifelike form, can be seen the birds and animals that make their homes upon the prairies.

72

Towards the edge of the city is the western headquarters of that famous force, the Royal Canadian Mounted (Police. A short visit to- the barracks grounds wiM. show the older buildings from which the law was administered to a western nation, even into the Arctic.

Splendid highways and rail lines lead to the ’Capital from all directions, and to the guests who come by aeroplane one of the best airports in Canada is avail¬ able.

Recreational and entertainment facilities afford a varied selection for pleasure under ideal surroundings, and short distances take the visitor to cooiling sandy beaches on lakes in the historical Qu’Appelle Valley.

In this valley of many an Indian legend is the chain of lakes renowned for their great beauty and their joy to caimper and to fisherman.

But little farther to the south and east are the beautiful Carlyle Lakes, a pface to rest and greet the tourist who has entered from the United States. To the west are the vast, lakes that draw the hunter in the Fall to the call of duck and goose that rest in thousands on their surfaces. On into the Cypress Hills where trout abounds, in wooded beauty of these foothills can the holidayer go to find a happiness and joy in care-free days and health and vigor in the brilliant sunshine.

Turning back into the north again one finds without a warning of its presence a wonder spot of the central part of Saskatchewan. Little Manitou Lake reposes near the town of Watrous and to the healing water of this “Carlsbad of America” come thousands every year. Health indeed has come to hundreds who seek the magic of its powers, just as did the Redman of the plains a hundred years ago, and thousands of the birds whom hunters’ guns have wounded or ailment over¬ taken.

On into the north through a fairyland of lakes and dells that trace their pattern over miles of green terrain and into the pine and birch clad land of peace and beauty into the great 'Prince Albert National Park the playground of the West.

Little known and little Heralded are the beauties of (Saskatchewan. So vast in its boundaries that 'it could be a nation in itself. So rich in the resources of nature, that it has drawn the eyes of the continent to its possibilities. So gor¬ geous in its varied 'beauties that those who have learned have stayed and wandered not from its entrancing rendezvous. So cheery and so genuine in its friendliness and greeting that hearts are warmed and burdens lifted with its charm.

Regina is the centre from which to start this intriguing exploration that will make your vacation a (memorable one. Go forth as a vagabond adventurer and find your joy and peace and rest return again to the city where your welcome never cools and on to meet the labors of the day inspired, renewed and with memories and happiness that even time cannot remove.

Pax Vobiscum!

STREET RAILWAY

The construction of the street railway as a municipal enterprise was pro¬ jected in 1910. Actual construction began in the early part of 1911, and 'opera¬ tion of cars on same was commenced July 29, 1911. At this time the system consisted of about six miles of track and six cars. Now there are 30 miles of track within the city limits, 1'4% miles of this being in pavement. The rolling stock is as follows: 46 Passenger Cars; 2 Sweepers; 30 Freight Cars; 1 (Snow Plow; 1 Sweeper Flow; 1 -Motor Haulage Car.

The total expenditure up to December &1. 1'933>, was $2,485, L3'8. 73, of whicht $515,853.71 was for cars and car equipment.

GENERATING- PLANT

A modern generating plant, located on the shores of Wascana Bake, corner Winnipeg and (Douglas Avenue, generates all power for the city. It has installed one Ii5,000 kw. C. A. Parsons, two ‘5,000 kw. Curtis, one 3,000 and two 1,500 kw. Willlans (Seimens) turbines, six 500 h.p. Babcock and Wilcox water tube boilers, fitted with Riley Underfeed Stokers and two 900 h.p. B and W Boilers with water cooled walls and pulverized fuel furnaces with pulverizing equipment to supply on the unit system, also one Kidwell-Foster-Wheeler -steam generator unit, capa¬ city 200), 000 lbs. per hour at 430 lbs. pressure .750 degrees fehr; also fired on the unit system pulverised coal, natural gas, or oil. The plant has all modern labor saving devices and shows excellent economy in generating.

SUBSTATIONS

No. 1 Plant is now employed as a substation and water pump plant, and for the .supply of street railway power has installed one 1,200 k.v.a. Bruce Peebles motor converter and two 400 k.w. Seimens generators, driven by one 1,200 h.p. Synchronous motor. It has also two motor driven water pumps, five million and seven million gallons capacity respectively. This Substation as well as No. 2 Substation on Elphinstone Street between Victoria Avenue and South Railway is arranged as feed point from a 13J2 Kilowat circuit through a bank of trans¬ formers 7,500 k.v.a. in each Substation. These two Substations are each capable of expansion to 15,000 k.v.a. capacity.

REFUSE DISPOSAL SYSTEM

Regina has now in operation one of the most modern refuse disposal plants on the continent. AM refuse collected from the city is hauled to a central transfer station, where it is loaded into steel dump cars. From the transfer station, which was specially constructed for this purpose at a cost of $20,000, the refuse is transferred over the street railway to the incinerating plant at the disposal works, a distance of two and a half miles. The incinerating plant, recently constructed at a cost of $64,000, has a capacity of 110 tons per 24 hours and is modern in every particular.

STREET LIGHTING

Nine hundred and twenty-five lamps light 103.2 miles of streets and one mile of lanes.

For distribution of 'light and power to 11(4,42.3- consumers approximately 103- miles of pole line is required.

WATERWORKS DEPARTMENT

Superintendent J. W. D. Farrell.

Foreman’s Office and Repair Shop -1400 block -Broad Street, Phone 9,1 3*86.

Pumping Station, No. 1 Power House, Broad and Dewdney.

The Waterworks system is owned and -operated -by the City.

The principal sources of supply are the Springs, artesian and pumped wells in the valley of Boggy Creek about 8 miles northeast of the City. A dam con¬ structed across the Creek impounds about 100,000,000 gallons of water, forming an artificial lake which is now part of the Park -System rather than part of the water supply system. Approximately 1 75 drillings have been made in connection

76

with the construction testing and renewing of wells. In 193'4 there were 49 flowing wells, one of which was equipped with a pump for increasing the yield, in addition three other non-flowing wells were equipped with pumps and used when required. All the wells yield a pure, sparkling water somewhat hard, hut of excellent potability.

The well water is collected in the Ba. .on Pump well ((270,000 gallons capacity) and raised to the Tor Hill Reservoir by means of two 2,000*,000 gallons .per day Centrifugal (Pumps, one directly connected to a 75 h.p. Electric Motor and the other to a 100 h.p. Electric ’Motor, or either pump can be driven by Oil Engines. Two of the pumped wells are connected to Tor Hill Reservoir by direct pipe lines.

Tor Hill Reservoir is a circular reinforced concrete structure, has a capacity of '5,000', 000 gallons and stands about 1’25 feet above the City level; it is 202 feet in diameter and the maximum depth of water is 25 feet. It is connected to the City Reservoir and pumping Station by a pipe line of which 2 miles is 21" re¬ inforced concrete and 4 y2 miles is 1'8" cast iron.

The spring water and the water from a ID inch pumped well is conveyed by d 1-5 inch vitrified pipe to the compensating basin and thence by 10 inch Cast Iron Main to the city (Reservoir and Pumping Station.

The Compensating Basins have a capacity of 1,065,000 gallons.

The second source of supply is located at Mallory Springs, ifour miles east of Winnipeg -Street and half a mile north of Dewdney Avenue. This source was connected to the City in 1.925 by an 11(8 inch pipe line. As originally developed the source consisted of flowing wells yielding a little over >500,000 gallons daily. In 1)92(9, there were constructed two concrete wells of 18 inch inside diameter. These wells are each equipped with pumps capable of delivering iy2 M.'G.'D. One unit is a standby in case of failure of the other.

-A third source of supply is at Mound Springs, 14 miles /North of the City. This source was explored during 1929 and 1930 by means of 12 test borings which indicated an available supply of probably two million gallons per day. In 1932 a 10 inch well was constructed and equipped with a pump of one million gallons per day capacity. Water from this source is conveyed through ten miles of 20" reinforced concrete pipe line to the Albert Reservoir, and thence to the City Reservoir through four miles of 3,6" reinforced concrete pipe The Albert Reser¬ voir is on a height of land four miles North of the City and is a circular rein¬ forced concrete structure, 52 8 7 feet in diameter and of ten million gallons capa¬ city. Surplus water from Boggy Creek can also be stored in the Albert Reservoir.

The City Reservoir is located near the City Pumping Station. It is of rein¬ forced concrete 250 feet long by 1;5>3 feet wide, 21 feet deep, capacity 5 million gallons.

At the City Pumping (Station the equipment consists of two 2 y2 million gallon per day and two 3 y2 million gallon centrifugal pumps, both sets having par¬ allel and series connections which enable them to deliver their capacity at 60 pounds pressure or half capacity at 120 pounds pressure. Both sets of pumps are driven by electric motors with variable speed controls. To provide a standby in case of electric failure there is a pumping unit consisting of two centifugal pumps each of S^OOtOOO gallons per day capacity, driven by gasoline engines. These pumps are capable of delivering their rated capacity at 100 pounds pressure.

The normal domestic pressure is 3'5 to 45 pounds per square inch which is increased for fire-fighting purposes to 70 pounds and over.

The Distributing System consists of two trunk mains 24 inches in diameter and one 18 inch, with a Venturi meter on each line, the gridiron connections range down to six inches. The total length of distributing mains is 79.'5 miles and of supply mains '3'2i.9 miles. Residents of the City lying beyond the distribution sys¬ tem are supplied from 75 public water taps.

The City water normally requires no purification, but the plant is equipped with a Wallace and Tiernan chlorinator. This can be used whenever the weekly examination by the Pathologist at General Hospital indicates the need.

Water consumption for 1934 averaged 3.5 million gallons per day; the largest daily consumption was 5.7 million gallons.

Applications for water service or the turning off of water must be made at the office of the City Treasurer at the City Hall.

77

Any change in occupancy or change in fixtures should be reported at once to the City Treasurer’s office.

CEMETERIES

Regina 'City Cemetery, n. s. 4th Ave. near Hamilton.

PARKS

The present area of land set aside for public park purposes is 257 acres. Wascana iPark is the largest being about 4*5 acres in extent. The value of this land with improvements is estimated at $3,300,000.

Alexander Park Generally known as Broad Street 'Park, is used as a chil¬ dren’s playground, and is equipped with suitable apparatus. Victoria Park Situated on Lome Street between Twelfth Ave. and Vic¬ toria Avenue, one block from the Post Office, in the heart of the City, has an area of over 7 acres. A large boat Club building and boat livery are situated on the shores of the lake. A civic bathing house is maintained for the free use of the public. -Some 35,000 men, women and children use the pool from June 1st to September 15th. Street and Avenue Directory

1936

HENDERSON’S (1936) REGINA Albert N. 97

Abbott

NOTICE

4 The Symbol following the residence name, indicates that to the best of our knowledge, someone living in the house is the owner.

♦> This Symbol indicates that a tele¬ phone is located at this number on the street.

This new Home Owners, Tenants and Phone Directory is compiled from in¬ formation taken on a special house-to- house personal canvass. We do not guarantee to be absolutely correct in every detail, but we believe it to be very accurate and complete, as far as it has been possible for us to get the information personally from someone at each residence. Where occupants have been absent the “owner” information has been left out.
